KIA Sportage Fuel Consumption - How Long Can It Go?

Updated Jun 14, 2022

The 2023 model is the fifth generation of the Sportage range and will be released shortly. When photographs of the outside and inside are leaked, they are quite appealing, and the technology and facilities will be amazing. On the other hand, Sportage has a significant downside in terms of fuel usage.

So, will KIA Sportage fuel consumption improve or not in 2023?

KIA Sportage Engine

In the Philippines market, the manufacturer offers the choice of gasoline engines 2.0L engine (154 hp, 192 Nm) and 6 AT gearbox, 1.6L turbocharged engine (178 hp, 265 Nm), and box 7-speed dual-clutch. The diesel version uses a 2.0L engine (183 hp, 417 Nm), an 8 AT transmission, a 1.6L engine (134 hp, 329 Nm), and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The Korean automaker has changed the 4-cylinder engine to make it more efficient. For example, the engine has a new and optimized combustion process, updated cooling technology, and measures to reduce friction, including an integrated thermal management system.

KIA Sportage Philippines competes in the C-class SUV segment with Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, and Honda CR-V. Thaco distributes the fourth-generation KIA Sportage in certain Southeast Asian nations. However, this model was terminated under the import category because of the high selling price.

KIA Sportage Fuel Consumption

Fuel consumption is one of the most important factors for any car. It is vital to know how much fuel your car consumes and how much it costs to drive.

Fuel efficiency for KIA Sportage cars driven by 2.0 petrol engines ranges between 7.6 l/100 km (30.95 mpg) and 12.5 l/100 km (18.82 mpg), while those powered by 1.6 diesel engines are rated at 4.7 l/100 km ( 64 mpg). The KIA Sportage fuel tank capacity is 62 liters. Thus we anticipate you to go about 500 kilometers in mixed circumstances with a full tank.

Compared to competitors in the same sector, this is not an optimal fuel usage. With the present scenario of soaring fuel costs, this is undoubtedly an issue that buyers should consider before making a purchase decision.

KIA Sportage Fuel Consumption Vs Hyundai Tucson

KIA Sportage 2.0 4WD and Hyundai Tucson 2.0 AT 4WD are two models that have a lot in common when they are both from Korea and are not outside the battle of the 5-seater high-rise car segment.

The Sportage 2023, like the new Hyundai Santa Fe and KIA Sorento, will most likely share the new Smartstream engine line with the 2021 Tucson. Tucson's fourth-generation currently offers diesel, gasoline, and hybrid engines.

The current Tucson model is available in the Philippines with 2.0L petrol, 2.0L diesel, and 1.6L turbocharged petrol engines. This level of performance does not differ much between Sportage and Tucson 2023.

However, Tucson consumes far less gasoline than the Sportage, particularly while traveling in mixed circumstances, with roughly 8 liters per 100 kilometers compared to 12.5 liters per 100 kilometers. Tucson will utilize around 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers in non-urban situations.

KIA Sportage Fuel Consumption Vs Mazda CX-5

Both the KIA Sportage and the Mazda CX-5 are compact crossovers, but Mazda CX has a displacement of 2,0 L and generates power up to 180 hp at 6500 rpm and maximum torque of 260 Nm at 5500 pm. The engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission with an option for manual control.

Kia Sportage fuel economy

Kia Sportage has better fuel economy than Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 has the lowest fuel consumption of 5.5L/100km and the highest fuel consumption of 10.4L/100km. This figure is significantly lower than the KIA model, indicating that the Korean competition has a more fuel-efficient engine.

This is because Mazda has used exclusive skyactiv technology, making the engine much more efficient. Compared to the price, the CX 5 is slightly better than the Sportage:

Conclusion

Overall, KIA Sportage fuel consumption is not too great but still acceptable, especially for those who want to find a car with a very futuristic appearance.

Its rivals offered better fuel economy, but KIA Sportage replied with much-improved driving dynamics, a flatter flying stance, and very practical interior and exterior design. If you find this article helpful, please support us on Philcarprice's next review.
