Suzuki Jimny Review: Exterior

Suzuki has chosen not to change the overall design of this new Jimny, especially since the previous model was already so appealing visually. The only major change is that it now comes in a simpler form, but this does not mean that it looks as stale or unattractive as its name might suggest.

The Suzuki Jimny flaunts a well-designed look for off-roading. A compact Jeep Wrangler and a Mercedes G-Class come to mind. It has become noticeably smaller than the previous generation yet has become wider. Suzuki Jimny dimensions measure 3,644mm long and 1,646mm wide, and 1,646mm high with a wheelbase of 2,250mm.

And with Suzuki Jimny ground clearance being 210mm, it appears sleeker and more aerodynamic while still retaining classic rugged elements like the flat glass horizontal taillights, an iconic grille, smooth hood, and lightly tinted windows.

These retro-looking lights are installed in a distinct grille, giving your car a character. Wide fender flares have a rather narrow SUV better presence and dimensionality.

The rear taillights are situated in the bottom of the rear bumper, giving it a more practical look that harkens back to old jeeps. Suzuki Jimny variants are available in bright colors, including Pearl Bluish Black 3, Metallic Silky Silver ( GL Exclusive), Solid Jungle Green, Solid Medium Gray, and White ( GL Exclusive).

Suzuki Jimny Review: Interior

Regarding Suzuki Jimny interior, the new version is offered in only one model - a crossover SUV inspired by the Jimny of yesteryear. The dashboard feels like it belongs inside the second-generation version. It's made up of hard plastics, and it has a boxy, utilitarian vibe.

Straight lines and square headlights include some touches of roundness too, and if you look forward, there are huge gauges with blue backlighting that are easy to read at night or even during the day when you need to focus on the road ahead.

Underneath those gauges are climate control, and they almost look like they belong inside a spaceship! But now you're probably thinking to yourself, "What about that touchscreen? I'm sure it looks cool as well!"

Further below the climate controls of the Suzuki Jimny, you'll find the window controls which are not on the door.

You can also find the toggle switches for the hill descent control and stability control. The seats are covered in fabric materials which are also expected.

The texture of the materials feels nice, and the seats themselves are comfortable. On the other hand, the steering wheel is similar, if not like other Suzuki models. Some may not like the idea of parts-sharing, especially with this model's own identity, but it's a good design.

Moving to the back of a car is easy if it's a small model. Pull out the handle at the top of one of the seats, then slide forward. The large space between the passenger seats will make it easy to get into the car if you're an average height Filipino.

Once you're seated and have pulled up your seat as well, there won't be a whole lot of legroom because this vehicle is best suited for children or people who you don't particularly care for - but they'll probably hate you even more after being stuck in there with them!

Suzuki Jimny Review: Engine And Power

Under the hood, you can find the Suzuki Jimny engine is the same one used in the Suzuki Ertiga MPV. The Suzuki Jimny engine specs come from a K15B inline-four that produces 130 N-m of torque and 100 horsepower.

This engine was specifically geared towards this vehicle to facilitate effortless street driving while still delivering a powerful punch, with Suzuki Jimny top speed reaching 90mph. We cannot stress enough how useful it is to have access to such a capable engine under your hood so that you'll always feel you have value for your money.

It'd come in handy, especially when it's very important to reach your destination as fast as possible without compromising efficiency.

Suzuki Jimny Review: Safety

A hill hold control and descent control are also standard on the Suzuki Jimny, which offers a set of seatbelt reminders, dual front airbags for both driver and passenger, ISOFIX tethers, and side-impact door beams.

Additional safety features for the Japanese market include an ABS with brake assist that works with stability control. A backup camera found in newer car versions can be coupled with reverse proximity sensors.

Suzuki Jimny Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The new generation Suzuki Jimny scores high up on the cool quotient charts.
  • Compared to the previous generations of the Suzuki Jimny, it is quite powerful for a vehicle of this size.
  • The Suzuki Jimny boasts very impressive off-road capabilities.

Cons

  • When it comes to the cabin experience, Suzuki hasn't kept up with other car manufacturers.
  • The seats are hard, which gives it quite a stiff ride quality, but even long drives would feel uncomfortable due to the limited legroom and knee room.
