Toyota Veloz 2023 Review

Toyota Veloz Overview

In the Philippines, the Toyota Veloz is the brand's first foray into the subcompact crossover SUV sector. It has a lot in common with its Avanza stablemate in design, but it has a considerably bolder front fascia and more technologically advanced safety measures.

The Veloz, like its MPV sibling, is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a CVT transmission transferring power to the front wheels. It comes in two trim levels and is advertised by Toyota as the ideal vehicle for young professionals and people planning to have a family.

Toyota Veloz Review

Exterior

From afar, the Toyota Veloz seems very identical to the Toyota Avanza, but closer inspection reveals that it is a distinctly different vehicle. In essence, the Veloz can be thought of as a more premium and ruggedized variant of the Avanza, as evidenced by its appearance. A design feature like the "V" was chosen to reflect what customers expect from an SUV.

Coming at the front, the Toyota Veloz greets you with a wide and aggressive hexagonal grille with T-shaped inserts and a chrome strip along the upper edge. This chrome strip is flanked by LED headlamps that are horizontally arranged and have slightly curved outer edges. They are incorporated with daytime running LEDs.

With a sporty-looking front bumper with T-shaped chrome-finished vertical frames for the fog lamps, which are also wrapped by a black plastic garnish, the bottom section of the front fascia looks fairly powerful. Having body cladding and a silver skid plate at the bottom of the front bumper, the Veloz has the necessary SUV-ish flair.

The Toyota Veloz 2023 dimensions are 4475 mm in length, 1775 mm in width, and 1700 mm in height, with 205/50 R17 tyres put on 17-inch machined alloy wheels for both versions. The Toyota Veloz ground clearance is 190mm.

Interior

The Toyota Veloz comes with a number of amenities that aren't available on the Avanza and make the Veloz seem more modern and appealing. The digital instrument console is possibly the most striking among them all, including digital readouts for the speedometer a full-TFT 7-inch screen on the left side displaying other data and a fuel gauge on the remaining side.

The leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel features radio, Bluetooth, and driving mode controls, as well as tilt and telescopic adjustments. The Toyota Veloz seating capacity is 7.

Performance

The Toyota Veloz is a monocoque MPV that differs significantly from Toyota's other robust seven-seater MPV, the Rush. Regarding Toyota Veloz engine, the car, on the other hand, has a very identical suspension arrangement, with Macpherson struts up front and torsion beams up back, as well as front vented discs and rear disc brakes.

One feature that sets the Veloz apart from other compact seven-seater MPVs is the availability of drive modes. The Veloz comes with three drive modes: eco, regular, and sport, each of which provides a unique driving experience behind the wheel.

Tech & Safety

The Toyota Veloz Philippines is available with two different types of infotainment systems. The lower-spec G model comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, whereas the higher-spec V variant comes with a 9-inch touchscreen. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are supported by both of these touchscreens in various configurations, with some of their capabilities controlled via voice commands and steering-mounted buttons. Both devices have identical layouts throughout platforms, in addition to providing quick access through buttons in certain areas.

Toyota is attempting to strengthen its position in the market with the Veloz by including certain first-in-class safety systems, the majority of which combine to form the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) package of automated driving aid technology.
