Named after a historical city in Mexico, Hyundai Santa Fe was originally a compact crossover in its first two iterations. In the third generation, Santa Fe evolved into a mid-size crossover. The dimension increase is expected to continue well into the fourth generation, which is also the upcoming version of the car in the market. Fourth-gen Hyundai Santa Fe, alongside the extended dimensions, will feature a host of new technologies and convenience features.

The recent third-gen Hyundai Santa Fe was first previewed in 2018 on the global market and made its way to the Philippines in 2019. Hyundai Santa Fe is currently available in two variants, GLS Mid, and High variants. Both variants share the same powertrain setting which is a 2.2L diesel engine with a 4x2 drivetrain.

2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Review

Hyundai Santa Fe Exterior

Keeping the SUV-DNA, 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe comes with a bold and imposing exterior.

Upfront, the mid-size SUV features the latest Cascading Grille design from the South Korean car brand. Other highlights of the Santa Fe exterior include the dynamic-looking LED projector headlights, hexagonal chrome grille, and silver-accented foglights. On the High variant, the headlight unit gets Dynamic Bending feature. In general, the fascia of the Santa Fe looks clean, modern, and sharp.

From the side profile, the Santa Fe shows off its fluidic design philosophy with nicely-contoured character lines and curves. The side also features some chrome applications around the door handles.

Enhancing the bulky look of Santa Fe, Hyundai Santa Fe is equipped with large 18-inch alloy wheels and black body claddings around the wheel arches and lower body. For the higher variant, the wheelset is upgraded to a 19-inch version.

Towards the rear end, Hyundai Santa Fe is available with sleek LED tail lights along with silver skid plates, black bumper cladding, stop-light-mounted rear spoiler, and roof rails.

Dimensionally, Hyundai Santa Fe measures 4,770mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,680mm in height. The wheelbase of the Hyundai Santa Fe stands around 2,765mm.

Hyundai Santa Fe Interior

When entering the interior of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, you are welcomed with a premium-looking design with the black and brown leather upholstery. You can feel the nice and soft surface of the materials used across the cabin.

The two-tiered dashboard design features a dynamic dual-tone look. In addition to the brown leather, the interior of this midsize SUV is occasionally inserted with silver accents that add a premium feel to the cabin.

In addition to the interior design, the Hyundai Santa Fe also features some comfort and convenience features that well justify the premium pricing of this model. These include cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate controls, AC vents for three rows, push-button start with keyless entry, and more. However, it is a pity that the Hyundai Santa Fe misses out on the touchscreen infotainment system for the lower variant. Instead, it comes with an old-fashioned 2DIN system with basic Bluetooth and connectivity functions.

The higher-spec Hyundai Santa Fe is available with features like a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto and wireless charging. There is also a sound system consisting of four speakers and two tweeters inside the cabin of the Santa Fe.

As far as the interior space is concerned, Hyundai Santa Fe can offer great comfort with a spacious interior. The midsize SUV can accommodate up to 7 occupants. With the rear seats folded, you can get extra room for cargo space.

Hyundai Santa Fe Engine and Performance

Under the hood, Hyundai Santa Fe 2022 is powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine that generates up to 200 PS and 450 Nm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox across the range. This refined engine empowers class-leading performance.

Regardless of its massive body and weight, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe is designed with great aerodynamics that allows it to speed up with good control and stability. The suspension setting of the Hyundai Santa Fe features a McPherson strut with stabilizer for the front and a multi-link suspension with stabilizer for the rear. This arrangement helps Santa Fe 2022 to achieve a softer and more comfortable ride even on the rougher roads.

It should be noted that the Hyundai Santa Fe is sitting on the Hyundai-Kia Y6 platform that is underpinning the six-gen midsize sedan Sonata.

Hyundai Santa Fe Safety

Standard Hyundai Santa Fe is available with basic safety features including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and seat-belt pretensioners with force limiters. Compared to today’s standards, this safety feature list clearly falls short. However, for the higher variant, Hyundai Santa Fe is fully-equipped with side and curtain airbags, front and rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera. It gets ventilated disc brakes for the front and solid discs for the rear.

From our Hyundai Santa Fe 2022 price Philippines article, it can be concluded that this midsize SUV is a good-looking car on the outside and comfortable on the inside. With all the highlight interior features and composed riding quality, plus the high fuel economy, the Hyundai Santa Fe can be considered a well-rounded family car.
