The Korean manufacturer Kia first introduced the Kia Carens in 1999 as a compact MPV. The Carens' first three generations were designed as small MPVs. Compact crossover configuration is used in the fourth generation.
The Kia Carens saw some success in the Philippines market following its initial local introduction in the middle of the 2000s, but it was subsequently discontinued in favor of the rapidly expanding crossover segment.

From the front, it strongly resembles the Kia Sportage and adopts Kia's "Opposites Untied" design motif/language.
It receives an eye-catching pair of LED daytime running lights, imposing LED headlights, and a fashionable front grille and bumper. Along with a distinctive tailgate, the Carens' rear is surrounded by sharp LED taillights. The outside of the 7-seater is further improved by the chrome highlights and reflectors that are included. The Kia Carens has a contemporary interior with beige and blue leather. The centerpiece is an infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen that sits flat against the dashboard.
